Who can Foster?
Although Fostering doesn’t require you to have any specific sets of qualifications, we surely expect you to have some attributes that make you the right fit for fostering.
At Nationwide Fostering, below are a few areas we consider making an informed decision if you are suitable to foster.
- Physical Requirements
- Previous Work Experience
- Life circumstances/Availability
Nationwide Fostering assesses the personality traits on a subjective basis believing that each individual is unique, having specific inherent attributes. We always advise people to provide as much information about themselves as possible. Doing this places us in a position to understand the carers better and make an informed decision to know if they are the right foster fit.
Physical Requirements
Fostering requires you to have sufficient space in your home to accommodate the children placed under them. We expect you to have a spare bedroom for the child, so they could use it for their personal activities like playing, studying, relaxing, etc.
Besides, the house should be harmonious and receptive enough to welcome the child, address their emotional needs, and make them feel at home.

Experience
As a foster carer, Nationwide Fostering expects you to have some experience when it comes to looking after a child and doing their proper upbringing. However, it does not necessarily mean that you should have previous fostering experience but at least some experience of looking after your children, relatives, close friends, etc.
If you’re still unsure if you have the requisite experience, you could visit our page, ‘Skills to Foster.’
Circumstances
It becomes vital to consider the carer’s circumstances when it comes to placing a child under them. It could mean either the living conditions, suitability of the home, resources, or merely the fact whether the carers have a stable relationship or not.
Nationwide Fostering does not advocate discrimination on the grounds of the region, religion, marital status, etc. However, we definitely expect the child to be placed in a non-toxic, nourishing environment that encourages their healthy upbringing and wellbeing.
